Victoria Bruff has a 2:1 degree in European Studies (German and History) and an MA in Communications Studies. She is bilingual German / English and speaks fluent French, with over 10 years export sales experience working for large multinational companies across Europe. This background provides her with an in-depth understanding of the global community and economy, as well as the importance of foreign languages to the future of our young people.

DBS checked, and with Qualified Teacher Status, Victoria has over 7 years teaching experience in primary schools around Barnsley. After completing the Graduate Training Programme at Hoyland Common Primary School she joined Dearne Carrfield Primary School as a Newly Qualified Teacher. Here, building on her management experience in her previous career, she joined the Senior Leadership Team with responsibility for Curriculum Innovation, as well ICT and Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) subject leader. As Dearne Carrfield became Carrfield Primary Academy, Victoria’s role expanded to include Key Stage 2 leader. In addition Victoria qualified as a National College Facilitator, and trained Navigate Academies Trust’s first cohort of the Middle Leader Development Programme in 2013. Now, as the new National Curriculum comes into effect, she has set up her own company, VB Primary Languages, to specialize in the teaching of MFL to primary schools across Yorkshire.

National Curriculum in England Requirements

From September 2014, schools in England must teach a modern or ancient foreign language to pupils across KS2, which will lay the foundations for further foreign language teaching at KS3.

French, German and Spanish have been identified as the most popular choices for primary schools, followed by Italian and Mandarin. These five are widely considered to be the key languages that will help young people succeed in later life. They give a good grounding for further languages study, at secondary school and beyond, and are important in the world of work.

Delivering high quality language lessons, VB Primary Languages can ensure that your school is ready for the changes of the new National Curriculum in England, and indeed help resolve the PPA cover problem.

VB Primary Languages offer fun and interactive French or German lessons, using a range of engaging resources such as puppets, IT, stories and songs. With many international contacts, VB Primary Language lessons lead up to Skype-ing and blogging with similar aged children in schools in their target language. This gives children the opportunity to learn a language and reap the benefits by having a real sense of purpose.

Schools receive progress tracking and written feedback for reports and parent’s evenings to keep class teachers and parents up to date. Vocabulary booklets covering each lesson are provided, so that students and teachers can have daily 5 minute “practice parcels” if they choose. VB Primary Languages can also offer MFL lessons for KS1 or afterschool clubs if required.
